Bio
Nuri Taub was born in Barcelona, Spain (French), just before the Spanish Civil War, to a Spanish father and French mother. After her father was killed in 1936, her family moved to Tangiers but returned to Barcelona after the end of the war.

Her family used to have their meals at a restaurant Armengol on calle de Avino, the same place where Picasso had his meals. He used to pay with his drawings, and it was here where she was first exposed to his art. These works helped develop her interest, and she started copying every still life that she saw. Encouraged by her art teachers, at the age of 15, she prepared to enter La Lonja Bellas Artes, an art school in Barcelona, but her mother objected. Nuri entered medical school instead without much interest. Three years later she became a fashion model and was contracted to Paris by a modeling agency and worked with the most famous designers and photographers of the time.

She continued to study and design and formally embarked on a career in design. She opened a fashion shop in Barcelona from 1950 to 1956 and continued working as a model in Paris, then moved to Caracas, Venezuela to set up the same type of business. She continued doing modeling and moved to New York in 1966. She completed her Bachelors in Art from SUNY Empire State College and graduated as a designer from the Fashion Institute of Technology. In 1980 she started studying at the Art Students League of New York.

Her design business trips continued to London, Paris, Milan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, South Africa and South America. However, her painting work took the forefront, while the design work was relegated to a less important endeavor.

In 1989, she had her first solo exhibit. She decided to primarily participate in group shows and dedicate more time to painting and printing. Her themes are autobiographical. She has worked in different techniques including: Realism, Impressionism, Cubism and is now exploring concepts associated with the New Figuration.
